The book appeared in print three times (1990, 1995, 2009), here we present its earliest version. In the introduction to the print edition, the publishers wrote: "The book we are handing over to the readers has already gained a large group of supporters; for some time now, Mrs. Wanda's memoirs have been circulating in typescript form both at home and abroad." The editor's note recommended the book (in the 2009 edition) as follows: "Appointed initially to the medical service in Lviv and then to the 'Stragan' cell of the ZWZ offensive intelligence service, captured by the Gestapo, Wanda Ossowska, after a very difficult investigation, was sent to the Majdanek concentration camp. She received the sentence: two years in the camp and the death penalty. She was transferred to Auschwitz the day before the sentence was carried out, then to Ravensbrück, Neustadt-Glevè. After her liberation in 1945, she returned to Warsaw, where she was arrested by the UB."
