M. Białoszewski (1922-1983) - poet, playwright, actor, creator of the "Theater on Tarczynska Street" and the "Separate Theater", despite belonging to the wartime generation, his work clearly differed from the artistic achievements of other representatives of this generation; he did not belong to any artistic group, did not engage in political activity, remained a "separate poet". "Miron Białoszewski is unanimously regarded as one of the most significant figures of Polish literature of the twentieth century and, equally unanimously, as a unique and one-of-a-kind figure, both in terms of the poetics of his work and his philosophy of life" (www.culture.pl). Białoszewski's debut was received enthusiastically both at home ("With phenomena so innovative and artistically novel, the question always arises: the true progress of art or yet another snobbery. In the case of Białoszewski, the matter is [...] beyond doubt, progress, the truest progress" - M. Glowinski in "Twórczość"), as well as abroad ("Let us welcome the poet. He is authentic. The constant effort to stand on the edge of the expressible, the honesty of the artist - these are qualities new in Poland and fully revolutionary" C. Milosz in the Parisian "Culture"). Quotes after: M. Fik "Polish Culture after Yalta", London 1989, p. 234).
