[and] tenże - Poezye. Vol. 4. Paris 1832. order of the author. Printed by. A. Pinard. 16d, pp. 285, [2]. Opr. in 2 vols. slightly late psk., trimming decayed.
Title pages vol. 1-2 in shared copies, slight browning of paper in places, a trace of dampness of vol. 1. On the spines of both volumes, in addition to the gilt titlepage, the monogram W. W. Contains the first 3 volumes of the eight-volume Paris edition of Mickiewicz's works: vol. 1 - Ballads and Romances and Miscellaneous Poems, vol. 2 - Konrad Wallenrod and Grażyna, vol. 3 - Dziady II and IV, Sonnets. The initial three volumes presented here were reprinted, with further pieces using unsold pieces of the first edition, changing their title cards. "We know [...] that this collection of 8 volumes was published in 500 pieces. This fact alone should make this edition rare, as indeed only certain volumes of it are found in even the more serious libraries. Most often three or four initial volumes are missing" (Semkowicz 171). Placed at the end of the set presented here is vol. 4 of "Poezyi" from an earlier edition, contains in its entirety the first printing of "Dziady" part III - one of the most important dramatic works in Polish literature. Dedicated by the author in print to J. Sobolewski, C. Daszkiewicz and F. Kolakowski - "spółuczniom, spółwięźniom, spółwygnańcom". The actual text is preceded by the author's preface on pp. 9-13. "A careful, beautiful edition, very rare today" (Syga 102).
