France, 2nd half of 19th century.
Probably a table covering to protect the surface, exchanged before the meal for a tablecloth. Fleshy mottled velvet; in the center a motif of flowers (edelweiss? gentian?) gathered in a circular bunch. Along the edge - a strip of decorative applique with floral motifs and ribbon.
