Biography
Małgorzata Markiewicz (1979) studied at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and took a postgraduate course at Konstfack University in Stockholm. She was a member of the feminist group grzenda.pl and the Art Association "Health Center". Markiewicz creates objects and installations, and works with artistic textiles and photography. In her works she mainly uses textiles and ready-made clothes, referring to such aspects of being a woman as knitting, family, domesticity, motherhood and eroticism. The issues she raises concern gender identity, cultural roles and the position of women in society. The artist's solo and group exhibitions have taken place at Mathare Art Gallery (Nairobi, 2019), MOCAK (Krakow, 2015), Botkyrka Konsthall (Stockholm, 2013), Matadero (Madrid, 2013), CCA Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, 2011), Studio Stefania Miscetti (Rome, 2010), Gallery Turf (London, 2007), Arsenal Gallery (Poznan, 2005), Zachęta National Gallery of Art (Warsaw, 2004), among others.
