Edition dedicated to the Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan (1908-1989). In the 1960s, he controlled Europe's most prestigious music centers: Berlin, Salzburg, Vienna; he influenced La Scala and the London Symphony Orchestra. He was involved in directing the operas he conducted, especially those by Italian composers and Wagner. He was an animator of new audiovisual techniques - on April 15, 1981, he presented the first CD player at the Salzburg Easter Festival (Osterfestspiele). With the help of modern media, he created a music empire; he made numerous recordings and televised music films. In 1969, he established a foundation through which competitions for young conductors are held every two years.
