The Moritz Stumpf & Sohn company was founded in 1804 by Carl Stumpf (d. 1830). Then, after his father's death, it was run by Carl Moritz (d. 1894) and successively by his sons Albert Moritz (d. 1895) and Karl Richard (d. 1892). The family tradition was continued by Albert Moritz's son Erich Albert Moritz (d. 1943). The company was headquartered in Danzig on Goldsmiths' Street (Goldschmiedegasse). In 1862, the company was awarded the extremely prestigious title of court jewelry company. The company's dynamic growth resulted in the opening of more stores on Dluga Street in Gdansk, as well as in Sopot and Gdansk Wrzeszcz. In addition to its own production of silverware, the company began buying and offering stamped products of large South German and Bremen goldsmith companies. The end of the company's activities came with the war. In 1938, the Nazi authorities took it over. The manufactory and store ceased to exist in 1945.
The company's products can be seen in the collections of the Gdansk National Museum and the Gdansk Museum.
