Signed and dated l.d. Wlastimil Hofman 1923
Dimensions: 25.5 x 35 cm
At the age of 16, he began studying at the School of Fine Arts under Jacek Malczewski, Leon Wyczółkowski and Jan Stanislawski. He continued his artistic education in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Art in the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme, a French academic painter and sculptor. Hofman became famous for his work entitled Confession, which was exhibited in 1906 at the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw. During the war he changed his place of residence several times, eventually settling in Szklarska Poreba, where he continued the traditions of the local art colony. He painted mainly portraits and scenes of a symbolic nature, full of moodiness and religious and patriotic content. The artist's works are maintained in intense, saturated colors, which further emphasize the depth of expression of the representation.
