sterling silver (950) hallmarked (the hallmark of the assay office with Minerva's mountain and the sample of 1, the goldsmith's mark with the monogram VB - in a rhombus), plater hallmarked (the plater's mark with the monogram VB - in a square);
spatula - length 30 cm; fork - length 27.5 cm; total weight 346 g.
Paris, late 19th century.
Stems weighted, edged with profiled band with lacings; openwork picks with floral decoration.
The company was founded in 1815 by Nicolas Vautrin. He was succeeded by Jules Boivin in 1862 and his son Victor in 1881. Victor Boivin specialized in tableware and table accessories. The Boivins' wares were highly regarded for their high quality and design, including twice winning medals and decorations at L'Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1869 and 1889.
