The company was founded in 1815 by Nicolas Vautrin. He was succeeded by Jules Boivin in 1862 and his son Victor in 1881. Victor Boivin specialized in tableware and table accessories. The Boivins' wares were highly regarded for their high quality and design, including twice winning medals and decorations at L'Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1869 and 1889.
