Image no. 2968 entitled "Boryszyn - rapeseed" is a work from the series CHOPINOWI - DUDA GRACZ. The series consists of 292 works that are "illustrations" of all Chopin's works including the lost ones (whose descriptions are known to us only from letters). The size of the work is always related to the length of the piece (the longer the piece, the larger the image). Lighter works, such as songs or etudes are painted with a "lighter" technique, namely watercolor. The "heavier" ones, such as mazurkas, concertos and nocturnes - are oil paintings.
The Chopin series is a personal, affectionate story by Jerzy Duda Gracz about the passing of time, history and the Polish landscape. His admiration for music is combined here with a peculiar, bagpipe-like strain of patriotism. This is his coffin portrait of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
When painting the cycle CHOPIN - DUDA GRACER, the artist approached some of Chopin's works a couple of times. This happened when a given piece aroused too many associations or the interpretations of the pianists differed significantly from each other. Painter "worked" mainly with Olejniczak. After repeatedly listening to his interpretation, he would confront it with Zimmermann, for example. He would then paint two versions of the same, say, scherzo: one would be included in the cycle and the other would include the inspiration in the title instead of the work's number.
