Bronze, patinated casting; green marble, veined; height ca. 52 cm.
France, cast c. 19th century.
Bacchic sculptural group - a favorite subject in Clodion's work: a couple embracing lovingly - a young satyr with goat's hooves sitting on a rock and a naked nymph standing by him; on the satyr's knees - a tambourine filled with bunches of grapes; at their feet a naked boy climbing on his toes and a satyr lying next to him. On the oval base on the back the inscription: "CLODION / 1780".
