Marked on the lid and on the body (partly illegible) with the maker's mark (PA/M and in the upper part a palm tree, in a rhombus), a partly illegible guarantee for gold (with a lion's head) dated 1809-1819, a small guarantee for gold (rooster's head) and a recence mark (palm) dated 1809 -1819, on the front skirt of the lid an italic engraved signature of Biennais, probably the seller.
Rectangular in cross-section, with a hinged lid decorated with guilloche decoration in rectangular fields with floral bordering. On the inside of the cap engraved later dedication AU PLUS DÉVOUÉ DES AMIS | L'AMI LE PLUS RECONNAISSANT [To the most devoted friends | the most grateful friend].
Pierre-André Montauban (b. 1763), registered his guild with the Paris probate office in 1800 and was active until the 1820s.
