The mug depicts a scene in a landscape with a Roman temple-rotunda with a statue, topped by a figure of Fame (Glory) blowing a trumpet. On the path to the temple stand two men talking (a Roman in a toga and a Phrygian), and at the foot of the mountain with the temple - three Roman soldiers.
The landscape also features a banner with the Russian verse inscription Храм истинной славы (Temple of True Fame). The name appears in the works of Enlightenment Russian writers such as Alexander F. Biestuzhev.
The mug is also decorated with the monogram BM under a crown in an open wreath of combined palm and laurel branches, under which is the date 1807.
It probably commemorates an officer who took part in numerous wars fought by Russia in a given year (the war with Turkey, the temporarily suspended war with Persia in the Caucasus and the war with Napoleon).
