Karol Wierusz-Kowalski began studying drawing at an early age - in Warsaw with K.Pillati and R.Ryszkiewicz, and later in Krakow with Juliusz and Wojciech Kossak. After graduating from high school in 1889, he went to Munich, where, on the advice of his uncle Alfred Wierusz Kowalski, he studied at the private school of Stanisław Grocholski and Wacław Szymanowski. He then went on to study with G.Hackel at the local Academy. During his studies, he benefited from the care of his uncle, whom he helped with painting commissions. He was a member of the Munich Kunstverein, and his paintings were quite popular. During this time he traveled throughout Germany, France, England and Italy. In 1899 he left Munich and settled in his family estate Posada near Konin. At that time he exhibited at Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery, the Krywult Salon and the Kulikowski Salon. During World War I he served in the army, in the interwar years he ran an art salon in Poznań, painted and exhibited a lot. After World War II, he lived in Poznań.
