The coat of arms of Staropis was granted in 1768 to Jakub Szubalski (ca. 1700 - after 1769), a scribe of the crown treasury, notary of Warsaw. He lived in the Klucznikowska Tenement House in the Old Town Square No. 21A in Warsaw. His descendant was Karol Szubalski, a colonel of the Napoleonic era.
On the seal, in the shield, in place of the two spears and the key, the nobleman's monogram "JS" is given.
In Polish heraldry there are only 2 coats of arms having an armed hand with a feather in the jewel, including only one belonging to a family with a surname beginning with the letter "S".
