Victor BRODZKI

Polish sculptor. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. In 1855 he settled in Rome. He made numerous works commissioned by the court and the tsar's family. He gained great fame. In 1862 he became a member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, and in 1868 an honorary professor at the academy there. In 1884 he became an honorary member of the Poznan Society of Friends of Science. He created sculptures of ancient, mythological, allegorical, religious themes (statue of Jesus blessing - All Saints Church, Warsaw), portraits, busts and tomb monuments. his works are characterized by great technical virtuosity, salon grace and proficiency in successfully resolving overly difficult compositional arrangements (monumental Escape from Pompeii). He was an important figure in the circle of the Roman Art Polonia. Meetings of Polish artists were held in his studio. Among the artist's friends were Aleksander Gierymski and Antoni Madeyjski.
