18th century, reliquary of St. Francis of Assisi.

Dimensions 26.5 x 20.0 x 6 cm Material: wood, fabric, filigree, precious stones.

St. Francis of Assisi (born 1181 or 1182[ in Assisi, died October 3, 1226 in Portiuncula near Assisi. The saint was the founder of the Franciscan order, and indirectly of the Poor Clares and Tertiaries. He is considered the patron saint of ecology.The reliquary is in the form of a display case.Placed in a wooden frame measuring 26.5 x 20.0 x 6 cm.The frame is gilded on the front.Inside is a glass-protected reliquary. In the central part is placed the statue of Saint Francis. Below are inscribed relics. The whole is surrounded by a decorative composition, made of ribbons enriched with filigree and precious stones. Access to the reliquary is at the back. Secured with pasted paper tapes made of old ppaier. A very nice, decorative item in very good condition.
