Biography
In 1952-57 he studied sculpture under Antoni Kenar in Zakopane. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw at the Department of Sculpture in the studio of Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. He was a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, where he headed the Department of Sculpture, and also ran a sculpture studio at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznan. Since 1973, he has been creating works he calls Folders, composed of hinged together thrifty forms that, when unfolded, gain a three-dimensional shape. The consequence of this kind of workshop were created since 1975. spatial drawings, stoneware reliefs, and the Hidden Dimension series - works consisting of forms cut out of translucent paper, often supplemented with a line. A further consequence of this way of thinking are Calques - ripped out and cut out, repeatedly folded, which conduct a kind of game with three-dimensional space. Space for the artist is yet another material to shape, part of his workshop.
