Leon LEVKOVITCH
b. 1936
In 1960 he graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Lodz, in the studio of Zdzislaw Glowacki. In 1970 he supplemented his studies in the studio of lithography at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Since 1972 he has also been working in Pietrasanta, Italy, where most of his intimate sculptures (in bronze and terracotta) are created. He sculpts, paints, draws, and also practices intermediate forms such as painting and drawing compositions in gouache technique, with elements of ritual or delicate relief in a thick layer of paint. His art owes much to the tradition of the Ecole de Paris. The type of figuration and expression developed at that time resonates in Levkovich's painting with equal force as the fascination with the world of Etruscan art in his sculptures. These influences are imbued and unified by a personal tone, the artist's style. He has been exhibiting since 1969, mainly in Paris and since 1995 also in Poland. Since then date the artist's lively ties with the domestic community, publications about his art in Polish magazines, the presence of his works on the art market.
