Circular ceramic plaque with an image of Nicolaus Copernicus (1498-1535) shown in profile; on the right - a sprig of lily of the valley.
Signed at the bottom: K. Laszczka 1946 (engraved in ceramic clay); around inscription: NICOLAVS COPERNICVS QUI SOLEM STARE TERRAM MOVERI IVSSIT (also engraved in ceramic clay).
Preservation condition: good, but visible loss at the top of the plaque. Provenance: purchase from the family of Konstanty Laszczka.
Image based on a well-known portrait (although lost) of Copernicus, with a sprig of lily of the valley in hand; the medicinal plant acting on the heart muscle - "resurrecting the dying". - symbolizes the scientist's medical interests.
