Biography
Studied at the Department of Sculpture of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Sopot and Poznań from 1946-50. After graduation, he became a lecturer at the PWSP in Poznań. He was a member of the avant-garde group of Poznań artists 4F+R. He abandoned traditional sculptural materials early on. He created sculptures from burned wood and welded iron. In particular, welded steel and other metals became his main means of artistic expression. During this period, he created such sculptures as Exhumed, Hiroshima, Bottom Armadillo. Horsemen sculpture, depicting the figures of Boleslaw the Brave and Otto III exhibited at Expo 2000 in Hanover. In the early 1970s, he settled in Rybitwy on Lednickie Lake, where he had his studio. He also engaged in applied sculpture. In front of Warsaw's Zachêta there are monumental lamps of his authorship. In Poznań, he made decorative grilles for the Ballet School, the City Hall and the Arsenal.
