The artist began creating sacred art in the 1930s, although he was certainly interested in it much earlier, if only through the work of Paul Gauguin, whom he so admired while still living in Poland. In the crucifixes or slender figures of saints he created, one can see not only the influence of the great Frenchman, but also Romanesque art or the sculpture of black Africa, in which many artists of that period were interested. The artist skillfully translated these influences into the principles of art déco, creating works of unique character.
