Biography
From 1951, he attended an art college for two years, after graduating in 1953, he studied painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Eugeniusz Eibisch. From 1960 to 1978 Henryk Zegadło and his father Adam ran an art atelier in Zakopane. At this stage, the artist created paintings on glass and sculptures of a sacred nature modeled on folk art, the most common motif being the figure of the Sorrowful Christ. He was a creator of theater decorations, his sculptures are a permanent part of folk art exhibitions (the most numerous collection is in the collection of the National Museum in Kielce). In 1978 he emigrated from the country to Germany, where he eventually settled (in 2001 he accepted German citizenship). After visiting Japan in 1990, Henryk Zegadlo began creating sculptures inspired by the local folk art. In March 2001 there was an opening of a permanent exhibition of his work called the Zegadło Museum.
