Waxed wood (American cedar), 30 x 15 x 8 cm
He has been carving professionally since 1983, continuing the family tradition. He gained sculpting experience during his many years of work at Tomasz Olszewski's woodcarving workshop and at the Color Metals Foundry in Warsaw. He was a scholarship recipient of the Polish-Egyptian Mission for Islamic Art Monuments in Egypt. He has been sculpting mainly in wood for several years. His abstract totemic forms evoke questions about man's relationship with nature, with our mystical animal or plant ancestors. Their form oscillates from definite geometry to gentle organic lines sometimes finding synthesis as obverse and reverse of the same work. The dichotomy of abstraction and representationalism and geometry and organicity in the context of totemic form refers to the human condition as an entity torn between culture and nature, which is constantly searching for the principle of its existence and asking about its source.
