The subject of the elephant, from time to time, appears in the work of Józef Wilkoń, reflecting his fascination with this powerful animal in various artistic forms.
In 1962 the book "Donkey Joko" by Mirosława Buczkówna was published, in which the elephant was illustrated by Wilkoń.
Other books with images of elephants appeared later, but Wilkonia's "The Jungle Book," published in 2009, gained particular popularity. One of its chapters is dedicated to elephants, which shows the unique place of this animal in the artist's literary and illustrative work. Wilkon's sculptural depictions of elephants are primarily the monumental elephant carved in wood in 2011 . This sculpture was presented, among others, in the Mazovian House of Culture in Warsaw and in the market square in Piaseczno, winning recognition for its impressive size and expressiveness. The elephant motif also appeared in the set design for the play "Kipling's Fairy Tales in Puppets: What does a crocodile eat for dinner?" directed by Jaroslaw Kilian.
This performance took place on October 20, 2013 at the Wroclaw Puppet Theater. The set design featured distinctive images of elephants, which complemented the artistic setting and highlighted the unique style of Józef Wilkoń.
These diverse interpretations of the elephant motif demonstrate the artist's versatility and his ability to give symbols unique meaning in various fields of art.
The sculpture is a treat for collectors.
