bronze, patinated casting; height 40 cm; width 42 cm; depth ca 23 cm.
France, Paris, foundry Ferdinand BARBEDIENNE (1810-1892) - active since 1838, in collaboration with Achille COLAS (1795-1859), 19th/20th century casting.
The figure of a naked young man with curly hair, lying on a ruffled cloak, under which a shield and sword are visible; the warrior, with the last of his strength, tries to rise - lifting a sprig of laurel in his right hand - a symbol of victory.
This is a reduction of a marble sculpture from the Louvre collection.
Signature on the back: "F. BARBEDIENNE. FONDEUR"; in addition, a circular foundry seal with a profile of a male head and an inscription in the rim: "REDUCTION MECANIQUE / A. COLLAS BREVETE".
