Janina KRAUPE-ŚWIDERSKA
1921 Sosnowiec - 2016 Cracow
She studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1938-1939, and then at the Kunstgewerbeschule from 1940-1942. She continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1945-1948 under Eugeniusz Eibisch and Waclaw Taranczewski (painting) and Konrad Srzednicki (graphic design). She worked as a teacher at her alma mater from 1948 to 1991. During the war she worked with Tadeusz Kantor's underground theater. In 1945, she joined the Group of Young Visual Artists. Since 1958, she was a member of the Cracow Group. From an early age, she worked simultaneously in painting and printmaking. She participated in important international exhibitions, such as the XXVI Biennale of Art in Venice 1952, the VIII Biennale of Art in Sao Paulo 1965, all editions of the International Biennale of Graphics in Cracow. She received numerous awards at them. She dealt with esoteric themes, also took up themes related to music, poetry, mythology. Her peculiar style, is based, on the one hand, on a free, spontaneous painting gesture, on the other - on full of hidden meanings, sometimes decorative arrangements of ideograms, symbols and signs.
