Biography:
Born March 16, 1950 in Szopienice near Katowice, died September 29, 2001 in Cieszyn.
From 1974-1978 studied visual arts education at the University of Silesia, branch in Cieszyn. Visual arts artist. Associated with the Foksal Gallery since 1877.
In the late 1960s he created the first spatial arrangements and participated in art actions. In his painting, he denied the traditional role of the painterly image and the role of the painter as creator. He was interested in impersonal, mechanical painting.
Since 1981, he created compositions from crayon cuttings, wooden blocks glued to boards and canvases, poured over wax, paint and lead. The most famous in Szewczyk's work are the realizations from the Library series (from 1986). They consist of wooden board-books, covered with lead writing.
His works can be found in numerous museum collections as well as in galleries and private collections in Poland and around the world.
