Giorgio De Chirico was an Italian painter born on July 10, 1888 in Volos, Greece. De Chirico became interested in Greek art and mythology as a child and received full support from his parents. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens for two years before moving to Munich, where he began his studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts.
De Chirico developed his style and decided on subject matter influenced by his travels and European cities. He served with his brother in the Italian army during World War I and continued painting during his service. The year 1919 marked the beginning of the next phase of the artist's seventy-year career, in which he experimented with several media. Giorgio De Chirico died on November 20, 1978 in Rome, Italy.
