-------------------
Heliographs are unique prints from negatives painted and scratched on glass. Beksinski made them from the late 1950s and early 1960s to the 1970s. Few of the heliographs lived to see prints during the artist's lifetime. The technique of making the negative is painstaking and technologically unwieldy and has a limited lifespan, as it depends on the materials used and the passage of time. Hence the small number of prints that can be obtained from them.
The subjects of the works made in this technique were similar to the themes running through all areas of Zdzislaw Beksinski's work. Most often it is a lonely human figure entangled in an inner drama, suffering and struggling with painful experiences, or just a head. There are also depictions of animals and several figures. During the period of the creation of heliotypes, the artist was particularly fond of geometrization and large simplifications, reminiscent of Cubism and the pre-war avant-garde.
The heliographs are prints from the original glass negatives of Zdzislaw Beksinski, on photographic paper from the 1950s-70s. The edition of the heliographs is limited - 10 pieces. Three pieces are left in the resources of the Historical Museum in Sanok and seven are for sale. The print bears two stamps - one wet stamp with information about the piece number in the series and the signature of Museum Director Wieslaw Banach, confirming authenticity, and the second dry stamp.
