Yaacov Agam (born May 11, 1928 in Rishon Le-Cijon as Jacob Gipstein) is an Israeli sculptor and visual artist working in op-art and kinetic art. He comes from a religious Jewish family. He studied at the Besaleel Academy in Jerusalem. He continued his studies in Zurich and then in Paris, where he settled permanently. In 1953, his first solo exhibition took place at Galerie Graven. In 1955, his work was exhibited at Galerie Denise René among the forerunners of kinetic art.
He works in painting (his paintings are usually in the op-art style), as well as in sculpture and designing elements of small architecture, including fountains.
