Wyczółkowski Leon ( 1852- 1936) one of the most outstanding Polish painters and printmakers. He received his first education at the Drawing School of Wojciech Gerson. He studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts (1875-77) under Wagner and Piloty and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1877-79) under Jan Matejko. He traveled extensively, which was reflected in his artwork. He was a co-founder of the Society of Polish Artists "Art". He taught at both the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow (1895-1911) and Warsaw (from 1934).
