Wilhelm Sasnal, committed artist, painter, illustrator, filmmaker making
short- and feature-length productions together with his wife Anka, creator of
comics. He initially studied architecture at the Cracow University of Technology.
Then he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow,
where he received his diploma in 1999 in the studio of Prof. Leszek Misiak. Co-founder of the
group "Ładnie" in which he was active together with Rafał Bujnowski, Marcin
Maciejowski and Marek Firk. Associated with the Warsaw Foundation
Foksal Gallery, Raster Gallery and Krytyka Polityczna. Most important for him
for him is the choice of what he paints, that is, what he has an emotional relationship to.
Sasnal also draws inspiration from mass culture, socio-political events
socio-political events, the history of Poland, its identity or the collective memory of its
citizens. The artist paints quickly using synthetic form sometimes
simplifying it to a graphic sign.
