Wanda Golkowska (1925-2013) studied at the State Higher School of Fine Arts (now the Academy of Fine Arts) in Wroclaw from 1946 to 1951. In 1950 she married a fellow student, also an artist, Jan Chwałczyk (1924-2018). Wanda Golkowska's creative attitude is minimalist in nature, often referring to linguistic and conceptual structures. In addition to drawings and painting, she created reliefs and spatial objects, initiated and participated in many actions including international ones, and participated in the mail art movement. She was a member of the Wroclaw Group, founded on the initiative of Prof. Eugeniusz Geppert in 1961. She was a participant in the most important meetings and symposia of avant-garde art in the People's Republic of Poland, playing an important role in them. Among other things, she took part in the Koszalin Plein-Air in Osieki in the 1960s and the 1984-2005 Plein-Air for Artists Using the Language of Geometry, organized by Dr. Bożena Kowalska. Wanda Golkowska is undoubtedly the most outstanding representative of op art in Poland, as well as conceptual and conceptual art.
