Utagawa Kunisada, born 1786 in Edo, died January 13, 1865 there) - Japanese painter working in the ukiyo-e style.
A pupil of Toyokuni Utagawa. He usually created a variety of female portraits (bijinga), sometimes of an erotic nature (shunga), as well as images of kabuki theater actors, characterized by expressive portrayal. He also worked as a book illustrator, his most important achievement in this field being the illustrations for Tanehiko Ryuteia's satirical novel Nise murasaki inaka genji.
