Franciszek Starowieyski (a.k.a. Jan Byk, lived. 1930-2009) - painter, graphic artist, stage designer, co-founder of the Polish poster school(made about 300 of them). Studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studio of Wojciech Weiss and Adam Marczyński (in 1949-52), then continued his studies at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, in the studio of Michał Bylina, where he received his diploma in 1955. Since 1964 he was the artistic director of the magazine "You and I", quite unique for Polish conditions, published in 1960-1973, modern, dedicated, lifestyle, fashion, art, literature. The monthly was characterized by an avant-garde layout. This was ensured by the artistic supervision of outstanding artists of the Polish poster school (including R. Cieślewicz, H. Tomaszewski, F. Starowieyski) .
