Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1883-1885 under Professor Luszczkiewicz, while he spent the next two years at the Vienna Academy under Griepenkerl and L'Allemand. He completed his artistic education in Munich, later in Paris, Italy, Spain and Morocco. From 1903 to 1914 he ran his own painting school in Lviv, where he also became a co-founder of the Young Art Association of Artists and a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Polish Artists. Batowski was described by his contemporaries as one of the last Polish battle painters.
