SKOCZYLAS Wladyslaw (1883-1934) - Zincographic plate and two ex-librises printed from it for Ludwik Skoczylas, the artist's brother.
Plate form. 4.9x8.1 cm affixed to a block of slightly larger size. The composition depicts a sorrowful Christ against the background of the setting sun, the inscription is incorporated: "Ex libris L. Skoczylas". The ex-libris was designed by Wladyslaw Skoczylas (as a so-called blind ex-libris) probably in the early 1930s and engraved in woodblock (prints in the Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and in the publication T. Cieślewski son "Wladyslaw Skoczylas", War. 1934). The inscription "L. Skoczylas" was touched up later by Witold Chomicz, and the ex-libris was prepared for final execution in a slightly reduced format and in the zincography technique. The subject of the auction is the original tintype plate. Included are the ex-librises reflected in brown and black ink on 9.2x6.3 and 10.9x7.5 arc. Good condition.
L. Skoczylas (1881-1961) - educator, literary and theater critic, brother of Wladyslaw.
W. Sko czylas (1883-1934) - graphic artist, painter, creator of the Polish school of woodcut, co-founder of the art groups "Rhythm" and "Ryt".
