Woodcut, 1923. Under the composition on a piece of tracing paper, print: Head of a highlander. Woodcut original by Wladyslaw Skoczylas. (opposite): Art supplement to the star booklet of "Tygodnik Ilustrowany". Dimensions: 21.5 x 21 cm (in frame behind glass: 54 x 57 cm).
Traces of soiling. Wladyslaw Skoczylas, prominent Polish graphic artist, painter and educator. He studied painting in Vienna and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and printmaking in Paris and Leipzig. In 1922 he took over the chair of graphic arts at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. He was the founder of the Rhythm Graphic Artists Association. Best known for his graphic works, of painting techniques he was most fond of watercolor
