Serge Mendjisky studied at the Beaux Arts in Paris, following in the footsteps of his father Maurice Mendjisky, a painter of the Paris School. In 1949, he moved to Nice, where he worked as a painter and also explored other techniques, including sculpture, collage and photography. Serge became completely invested in photography as his medium in 2000, using the collage technique to transform photographic images and force viewers to question the appearance of familiar landscapes and urban monuments.
Port Grimaud is essentially a private town, located 6 km from medieval Grimaud. It is called the Venice of the Côte d'Azur or the Venice of Provence.
The port of Grimaud lies just 7 km from Saint-Tropez. François Spoerry, the chief architect of Port Grimaud, bought the site right on the Bay of Saint-Tropez in 1962, and 4 years later got the building permit. Port Grimaud was commissioned in stages, and the entire project was completed in 2000. The author of this project died in 1999, and his body lies in a church on the Port's main square.
