Roman Banaszewski was born in 1932 and died in 2021. He studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He received his diploma from the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Prof. Konrad Srzednicki's lithography studio and Maciej Makarewicz's poster studio. In 1961, he began teaching as an assistant at the Faculty of the Cracow University of Technology. Since 1969, he worked at the Department of Industrial Forms at the Academy of Fine Arts. The artist received the title of professor in 1987. He headed the Graphic Design, Book and Typography Studio at his alma mater. After retiring in 2002, he worked at the European Academy of Arts and the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology in Warsaw.
He participated in many plein-airs and symposia at home and abroad (in France, Italy, Greece, Argentina and Mexico). The results of these plein-airs were numerous exhibitions.
He was awarded the "Golden Laurel" for his mastery of the arts, the Knight's Cross, the Badge of Honoris Gratia and the bronze medal: "Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis."
The artist's works are in museum collections: National in Warsaw, Cracow, Art in Lodz, National in Poznan, in Tokyo, Art Gallery in Oslo, Pratt Institiute in New York, Graphics Cabinet in Geneva, Library of Congress in Washington, New Darmstadt Secession in Darmstadt and many others.
