The artist was born into a well-known Sopot family, which nurtured Polish roots. His grandfather and father were diplomats in the Free City of Gdansk and in pre-war Poland. The son of Elżbieta Szlomska and Aleksander Wiatrak, he was born in Sopot on October 9, 1956. Graduated from the Painting and Graphic Arts Department of the Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk (studio of Professor Jozef Zablocki). He received his diploma in artistic printmaking in 1985. The work crowning his period of study was considered one of the more interesting (National Diploma of the Year 1985). The artist participated in more than a dozen solo and group exhibitions in Poland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain, Sweden, the United States, Canada and Japan. His last, posthumous exhibition took place in June 2010 in Sopot's Sierakowski Manor.
