The presented engravings are from "The British Zoology" by Thomas Pennant (1726-1798). This prominent naturalist contributed to the development of zoology, especially ornithology, with his publication. Many of the animals depicted in the atlas are life-size. Numerous were depicted in their natural habitat. The drawings were made for Pennant by the excellent artists Paillou and Edwards. The undertaking was so costly that the author took out a loan to create the atlas. The large format color illustrations are extremely impressive.
