Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is one of the most outstanding artists of the 20th century, whose work influenced the development of modern art. The Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker and ceramicist, known for his extraordinary versatility, revolutionized art through his many stylistic experiments. His oeuvre includes such groundbreaking trends as Cubism, which he co-founded with Georges Braque, as well as Surrealism and Expressionism.
A man of unquenchable creativity, Picasso created more than 50,000 works ranging from painting and sculpture to ceramics, printmaking and illustrations. Prominent in his prolific career are masterpieces such as "Guernica," a painting that was a symbol of opposition to war, and portraits from the Blue and Pink periods.
One of the artist's fascinating projects was the portfolio "Le Goût du Bonheur" (The Taste of Happiness), published in 1970. It is a collection of lithographs, which are reproductions of Picasso's drawings made in 1964. They contain light, playful and erotically infused scenes, reflecting the 83-year-old master's creative freedom.
The set was published in a limited edition of 666 pieces by Carl Schünemann Verlag (Bremen), Editions Cercle d'Art (Paris) and Harry N. Abrams, Inc. (New York). Picasso personally provided the sketchbooks for this publication, and its technical execution was supervised by Günther Dietz, whose printing workshop faithfully reproduced the details and texture of the originals. Jean Marcenac, in his introduction to the album, interpreted the drawings as the artist's personal confession of love and desire.
The works in this series, which are rare collector's pieces, remain proof of Picasso's constant creative passion and his ability to capture the essence of human emotions and desires.
"Le Goût du Bonheur" is not just a collection of prints - it is a manifesto of the joy of life in its most sensual and spontaneous form.
