Very good condition. Edition I. The series was created in 1954-1956 as an illustration for J.Hersey's work "The Wall". However, the book with the artist's illustrations was not published. S. Mrozewski did not realize his intention until 1961, publishing 35 copies of the book by himself. The illustrations were subsequently published in three publications, the first of which is presented here. All the woodcuts are signed on the woodblock in various places of the composition with a bound monogram "MS" with the Prussian coat of arms. The individual boards bear the titles: Establishment of the Ghetto, Entrance to the Ghetto, Forced Labor, Ridiculing Religion, Vegetable Gardening in the Cemetery, The Last Tree in Ghetto, Illegal Slaughter, Sabbath Eve, Funeral Procession, Wedding, Death Stalks the Streets, Janusz Korczak with Children Going to Treblinka, Round-up for the Gas Chambers, The Uprising-Hopeless Fight, Desperation and Death, Life Goes on. The series shows daily life in the Warsaw Ghetto. The introduction was written by Henry Kanarek.
S. Mrożewski (1894-1975) - one of the most outstanding Polish graphic artists. Woodcutting was his beloved field of artistic expression. In it he created his own unique graphic style, characterized by a subtle play of different silvery tones achieved through extremely precise cuts.
