Battle of Raszyn - fought during the war with Austria (during the Napoleonic Wars) on April 19, 1809 in the area of today's Raszyn municipality by Polish and Saxon troops, commanded by Prince Józef Poniatowski, against a corps of Austrian troops, under the command of Archduke Ferdinand Charles d'Este. As a result, the two sides signed a convention whereby the left bank of Warsaw was ceded to the Austrians, but on terms favorable to the Polish side. The battle remained tactically inconclusive, but from a strategic point of view it proved to be a success for the Poles, as it marked the beginning of a campaign that resulted, among other things, in doubling the area of the Duchy of Warsaw and increasing the Polish armed forces from 14,000 to 60,000 in less than three months.
