Marc Chagall - (1877 - 1985), famous painter and printmaker of Jewish descent who held Russian and French citizenship; The figures in Chagall's paintings often levitate in the air, as if searching for a new and better world for themselves. The stylistics of his works are on the borderline between expressionism, surrealism and symbolism. You can also see in Chagall's work the influence of Cubism. The do- mining colors of the paintings are blues, greens and reds. The painter operated with delicate, wavy lines, rendering the unreal shapes of fantastic creatures (such as fish with wings). He created worlds bordering on dream and java, full of color and magic.
