"I am, because you are" is a print by Magdalena Piwko-Chudzik created in 2020, using the linocut technique. The work was made on 70x50cm paper and depicts a nude. The composition of the graphic "I am, because you are" consists of a solid black background and interpenetrating three fragmentary outlines of female bodies, traced with a white line. The bodies overlap and merge into an unusual collection composed of real and familiar shapes. The bodies exist simultaneously in community and in isolation, because despite their literal layering as elements of the composition, they are not connected to each other by any gesture. They are like a series of suddenly recalled memories, captured in a moment of unexplained transformation.
