Krzysztof Tomalski was born in 1963 in Gorlice. He studied at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He defended his diploma with honors in 1989 in the Copperplate Studio under the direction of Professor Stanislaw Wejman. Since 1989, he has been employed in the Copperplate Studio at the Graphic Arts Department of the same academy as an assistant, then as an assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. in 1997 and his postdoctoral degree in 2006, and was awarded the title of Professor of Fine Arts[3][4] in 2013.

He served as dean of the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow during the 2008-2012 and 2012-2016 terms. In 1990, he received a Canadian scholarship from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation for his series of prints entitled. "Flohmarkt." From 2009 to 2013, he was a member of the board of directors of the Association of the International Graphic Arts Triennial in Cracow.

In the early 1990s, he created color etchings inspired by landscape. He created more than a dozen graphic series in etching, linocut and in his own intaglio techniques (bold chipping, sand tint, alintaglio), presenting them in more than 30 solo exhibitions at home and abroad. He has participated in more than 300 group exhibitions, including international competitive exhibitions. Since 1993, he has been experimenting with the "dry alumina tint" technique he invented (a type of intaglio printing on a non-metal substrate). In the late 1990s he returns to metal techniques. At that time, he created the repeatedly exhibited and award-winning works in the series "Torsos" and "Monoliths," inspired by the landscape of the Krakow area, as well as the unchanging micro-scape of the world. He is currently creating large-scale prints in his own alintaglio technique, which is a type of dry needling on aluminum sheets. He is a five-time Grand Prix winner in the Best Graphic of the Month competition in Cracow. He received an honorable mention in the national competition for the Daniel Chodowiecki Prize and at the International Biennale of Graphics in Bitola.
