Krystyna Szalewska-Gałdyńska was born in 1938 in Przerosl near Suwalki. In 1958, she graduated from the State High School of Fine Arts in Szczecin. In 1963 she received a diploma in graphic arts from Professor Ryszard Krzywka at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. It was with Torun that she tied her further fate. She was engaged in painting, printmaking and drawing. In her works she dealt with the issues of passing, suffering, faith and salvation. She is best known for her series of etchings with the image of the Virgin Mary, as well as her fantastic landscapes, often with motifs of Torun.
